Colonel (Ret.) John T. “Jack” Blakely, age 90, of Columbus, Ohio. Died peacefully at home in the company of his wife of 61 years. Veteran of U.S. Army with 29 years of service including WWII and Korea. Preceded in death by his birth parents, Thomas Tyler and Frances Elizabeth Turnell, his adoptive parents Mr. and Mrs. John W. Blakely, and siblings Jesse, Helen and Melba. Survived by his wife Mary Louise (Potts) Blakely, children Joan (Jeff) Moody, John (Delores) Blakely, and grandsons John W. Blakely and Blake W. Moody. Graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute, 1942. Patriot and Patriarch. One who endured the horrors of war and yet returned with a selfless dedication to his family and those less fortunate. Lover of children and other animals. Champion of the downtrodden. A leader by example. Storyteller and prankster. He will be loved and missed by many. His family extends our heartfelt appreciation for the great care and countless acts of kindness shown to the Colonel by his doctors and the many caregivers in their offices and at Trillium Senior Living. Family will receive friends Thursday evening, May 7th 6-8 PM at RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 High St, Worthington, Ohio. A memorial service for friends and residents will be held on Friday, May 8th at 1:30 PM, at Trillium Senior Living, 3500 Trillium Crossing, Columbus, Ohio.
