Robert Harold Essman, age 79, of Granville, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, March 2, 2010. He was born in Newark, Ohio, July 29, 1930. He received his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from The Ohio State University and retired from the university as a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Molecular Genetics. He served as treasurer of the Ohio Academy of Sciences and Publications Manager for Botanical Society of America. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force. Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years Dorothy, parents Harold Wilde and Anna Mae (Baker) Essman, and sister Betty Humphrey. Survived by his daughters, Kimberly (David) Hiser and granddaughter, Kathryn Hiser of Marysville, Ohio, and Karee (Peter) Van Runkle and grandsons, Andrew, Alan and Brian Van Runkle, of New Albany, Ohio; and his brother, Leonard Essman, of Pataskala, Ohio; and very special friend, Bert Price. Robert enjoyed the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, Dawes Arboretum and walks in the woods. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
